Rotterdam - Groot IJsselmonde

The view from the surrounding spaces is in great contrast with the activities which are performed there. Suspects being taken into this office must wonder what kind of police station they have been brought to. Their exercise yard would be somewhat different.

As can be seen in these photographs, the reflection - in the twelve windows surrounding the space - was Lucien den Arend's intention. He proposed to use mirrored glass, but that was not possible - the officer in charge needs to be able to keep an eye on everything. But, even with plain glass, the reflection has the effect the artist had in mind.
